Organic farming meets Free & Open Source Software? Learn organic farming during a "guerilla coding" retreat. Learn programming, networking and other home-grown computer skills while building an organic garden. Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) IS the computer world's organic gardening. They would be like whole grain bread and thermal grease...perhaps not. Both tend to favor non-commercial, royalty/patent/IP safe, collaborative methods. Combine these ideas to get geeks eating organic produce and organic farmers building wifi mesh networks. ...(See the full text)

Jeff emailed me for some icons, I've got a first draft. Will scan and upload them later tonite. I've started using a theme of stick figures "doing things" to represent the icons. They're pretty cool and funny looking. Any other ideas on a basis for the icons? Jeff gave me the list of the seven new topics for the OIP, I followed those for the new icons. -J ...(See the full text)
During the OIP's six-month hiatus, LucasGonzalez? introduced me to Tav's UK-based group of espians at http://wtfcon.org/, specifically the IRC channel #esp on freenode.net (web-client at http://webirc.espnow.net/). That group gave me the inspiration to keep going on. The OpenIdeaProject? is at least a historical resource. We've done mixed-mode collaboration, and have the notes to prove it. We have a better feeling for what we want, and when to use it. We know what works and what doesn't. We've made some mistakes along the way (and have the notes to prove it). ...(See the full text)
After a 6-month hiatus, The Open Idea Project is back! Much retuning to do, DNS is first. ...(See the full text)
Business for accelerating humanities cultural evolution I'm looking for investors who understand that 95% of humans have to put survival above environment. That we are heading for disaster. Up for sending an expedition through cultural space to find a sustainable information age based on the development of human capital. Business says you need the plan while the sciences indicate that true cultural evolution can not be planned. Indeed the planning insures failure. ...(See the full text)

I've just installed and tested a Zope product called "MailBoxer" as a potential replacement for external mailinglists. This capability allows other Zope products to access the mailinglist archive, such as integration into the future Thinking Tool Kit (OIP:TTK).
Two mailinglists have been created;

The "Gratis" website was created with the intent of providing information on the Open Source principle and its potential impacts on society. The main aim is to develop forums where thoughts on this topic can be expressed. As a work in progress, we aim to continue to update the site with new and exciting developments on how Open Source can be harnessed in various capacities. We currently are exploring its applications in software, hardware, government and research.
We invite anyone who is interested in participating in mass collaboration of human resources via the Internet to post ideas, articles or links which may be relevant. This site can be found at: ...(See the full text)
Development of The Open Idea Project's ThinkingToolKit? (OIP:TTK) continues, and this is the place where updates and uploads will be posted. Please be sure to check for attachments, as everyone is encouraged to contribute to the effort, as always. I suppose everything is public domain unless otherwise noted. Data contained therein is also public domain, unless otherwise stated, as for now it's courtesy of the Minciu Sodas Laboratory (www.ms.lt). ...(See the full text)
After a (too) long hiatus, anonymous users can now post replies and submit articles for posting without a login box appearing. This issue has been a major annoyance, but is now mostly resolved. ...(See the full text)
Thanks again to Slashdot for providing a link to a Seattle Times article called "Setting online works free doesn't please everyone" There seems to be a problem defining exactly what "public domain" means, then goes into what Creative Commons believes it means. No mention of "copyleft" was given in the Seattle Times article, but many good observations can be seen the slashdot article. My observations, and their effect on the OIP is below. ...(See the full text)
Take a look at the attached graphic and vote for your favorite logo for the ThinkingToolKit?. Discuss at will. Thanks Josh! ...(See the full text)
A usual visit to www.zope.org was quickly routed to http://fle3.uiah.fi/, home of the Fle3 - Learning Environment for Zope, by the folks from the University of Helsinki's Center for Research on Networked Learning and Knowledge Building, Department of Psychology. Take a look around the demo, then look at our latest mock-up (set #3). My first impression is below. ...(See the full text)

(please excuse the duplication - JeffArch?) I would like to take a moment to bring everyone up-to-date as far as what's going on at the OIP. As always, what's going on is more behind-the- scenes than anything. This situation is due to change rather soon. ...(See the full text)

The threat of fundamentalism in Indonesia will not come from the variety of militant Islamic groups in pockets of the country. If the rise to strength, it will be because other, apparently moderate groups unwittingly partner with them in attainment of some inocuous goal. ...(See the full text)
Algorithms in Africa brings a refreshing view of one of the aims of some people's activities. Do people who will be contributing with their "idea aid" think that they might contribute more by speaking or more by listening? Can the OIP (and similar projects) reinforce one attitude, the other, or is it attitude-neutral? How do you envision a COTHINKING SESSION with the future OIP software? What do you imagine you'll be doing? Will you want a webcam and a sketchpad, or just "ascii-cothinking" will do? Please share your vision here or in some of the other spaces at MSL or memes.net, etc. ...(See the full text)
Saw an article on slashdot titled The Community Blackboard. It's supposed to be a monument to free expression, with both a physical monument and online, digital "blackboard". What comes to mind when you think about "Community Blackboards"? ...(See the full text)
